Future Materials

Future Materials

In 2025, we will be collaborating with the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (Netherlands) for their Fashion & Textile Material Fellowship, starting 15 January 2025.

Deadline: 2 September 2024
Residency period: 15 January – 15 December 2025

The Fashion & Textile Material Fellowship, as part of the Academie’s long-term Future Materials programme, supports an existing research project exploring sustainable and circular material approaches to fashion and/or textile materials with the overall objective to encourage the transition to more ecological and sustainable fashion systems.

The selected candidate will be offered the opportunity to develop their project with the expertise and facilities of the Jan van Eyck Academie, the Research Collective for Decoloniality & Fashion (RCDF) and the research group Technology Driven Art Maastricht Institute of Arts (Zuyd Hogeschool).

Future materials

Future Materials at the Jan van Eyck Academie aims to support environmentally conscious art and design practices by conducting research and disseminating knowledge on sustainable non-toxic materials. The long-term programme promotes sustainable alternatives to fossil-based or toxic materials commonly used in arts and design with the aim to foster ecologically mindful approaches in these creative fields.

Working among a cohort of some 35 artists, designers, curators, writers, and other creative minds, will provide the two Research Fellows with insights into the daily complexities of the transition towards sustainable materials, as well as the opportunity to exchange with and learn from a multitude of practices spanning the world.

  2. Dear Zrinka, you do not need to hold a phd (or aspire to obtain one) to apply for the fellowship. You do need to have an existing practice/project around the development of sustainable materials in textile and fashion. Best wishes
